I have read a lot on the BP6 message board
regarding the Highpoint controller. Last night I had some time to waste so I
tried a couple of different BIOSes and various drivers under Windows 2000
server and ran the Sisoft Sandra benchmarks. I was surprised by the
results. Sandra expects about 8000 for UDMA33 and 13000 for UDMA66. As you can see I only tried a sketchy number of benchmarks: (All
done at 75Mhz fsb)
One of my drives has had the "accoustic management" switched off, I believe it was the 45Gb, it is theoretically noisier but it improves the drive performance, I can't hear the drives anyway with the racket from the fans! It is somewhat mystifying that the 45Gb UDMA 100 drive performs so well despite being on a UDMA66 interface... I may be missing something fundamental somewhere, certainly my drives haven't failed yet and I don't get data corruption, having said that I have a feeling that my machine is not happy with the correct 66Mhz FSB! Thank you to Tim for running the BP6 message board and the numerous helpful contributors. |
